Socials, Timeleft or Groupvibe?
Last updated 30 October 2026.
All three do the same thing at heart: a small group of people who have not met, a table booked for you, and nothing to organise. The differences are in what you can book, how you are matched, what you pay and where it runs. We are Socials by Detor, so this is written by one of the three; the facts about the other two are what their own websites say, and the date they were read is at the top of this page.
At a glance
| Socials by Detor | Timeleft | Groupvibe | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you book | A social table (dinner, drinks, coffee, brunch), an activity meetup (bouldering, a run, board games…), an event open to everyone, or a free hobby club | A dinner, and in some cities drinks, coffee or a walk | A meeting at a café or restaurant |
| Group size | About 6; never fewer than 4 or more than 12 | 4 to 6 | 4 to 6 |
| When, in Amsterdam | Several dates a week, on the Discover page | Wednesdays and Fridays at 19:00 | Set by their app |
| How you are matched | A few answers you give once: language, age range, what you came for; a person checks every group | A questionnaire and their algorithm | Their app's matching |
| Who you see before you meet | First names and pronouns only; no profiles, no photos to browse | Per their app | Per their app |
| The venue | We book it and tell you the address the day before | A restaurant they pick | A café or restaurant |
| What you pay | A seat price per session, shown before you pay; your own food and drinks at the venue | A membership to confirm a booking; your own meal | Per their app |
| Bring a friend | Yes, one, in the same group | Per their app | Per their app |
| Cities | Amsterdam, Utrecht, Paris, Berlin, Barcelona and Vilnius | More than 200 cities in 52 countries | Amsterdam and San Francisco |
"Per their app" means their public website did not say on the day we read it. We would rather leave a cell open than guess.
What is the same
The idea. A small table, people who came to meet people, a place booked for you. If you have done one, you know roughly what the others feel like: a slightly nervous first ten minutes, then a normal dinner with people you might see again. None of the three is a dating app, and all three meet in public places.
What is different
Beyond dinner. Socials is the only one of the three with activity meetups and free hobby clubs, so after a table you can meet the same kind of people over bouldering, a run or a board game, and a club keeps you meeting them. Timeleft is built around the weekly dinner. Groupvibe is the café meeting.
Paying. Timeleft needs a membership to confirm a booking. Socials has no membership: a seat has a price per session, shown before you pay, and at the table everyone pays the venue for their own food and drinks. (There are optional seat packs for people who come often.)
Privacy before you meet. On Socials the people at your table see your first name and your pronouns, and nothing else, until you have met. There is no bio and nothing to browse, on purpose. That is a choice some people love and some people miss.
Reach. If you travel a lot, Timeleft's 200 cities are hard to beat. Socials runs in six European cities and opens more as people ask for them.
Which to pick
- You want dinner this Wednesday in any big city: Timeleft.
- You want a café meeting in Amsterdam with a small group: Groupvibe.
- You want to meet people in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Paris, Berlin, Barcelona or Vilnius, over dinner or an activity, pay per seat and keep seeing them through a club: Socials.
Honestly, many people in Amsterdam try two of them. They are not expensive, and the right one is the one whose dates fit your week.
Questions people ask
Is Socials by Detor like Timeleft?
Yes in the idea: a small group of people who have not met, a table booked for you. Socials adds activity meetups, events and free hobby clubs, has no membership (a seat is priced per session), and shows the others only your first name and pronouns before you meet.
Which is cheaper, Socials or Timeleft?
Timeleft needs a membership to confirm a booking; Socials prices each seat per session and has no membership. Which is cheaper for you depends on how often you go. In both, you pay the venue for your own food and drinks.
Can I bring a friend to a dinner with strangers?
On Socials, yes, one person, always in the same group as you. We spread plus ones across the groups so you still meet new people. For Timeleft and Groupvibe, check their apps.
Do these work outside Amsterdam?
Socials runs in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Paris, Berlin, Barcelona and Vilnius. Timeleft runs in more than 200 cities. Groupvibe lists Amsterdam and San Francisco.
